Fun Friday Links: The Language of Drinking, Not All Minds That Wander are Lost, and an Array of Hedgehogs

Welcome to Conspire’s Super Happy Fun Friday Link Time, a weekly collection of cool discoveries from around the Web. Most times the goal is to get you thinking differently about communication, collaboration, culture, and life in general. Other times, LOLCAT ATTACK! Submissions are welcome, and you can send them to conspire@mindjet.com for consideration.

A Brief History of Imbiber’s Euphemisms

Since it’s Friday and all, there’s a decent chance that many of you will be embarking on adventures this evening that involve a cocktail or two. Even if that’s not the case, the origins of these 11 common drinking phrases are still pretty interesting, especially because most of them are borderline nonsensical.

Bonus: most of the histories are at least somewhat disputed, so it’s possible that using these tidbits as your go-to icebreaker for the night could stir up some very passionate repartee.

3 Reasons to Give in to Mental Wanderlust

Daydreaming doesn’t traditionally make the list of things known to boost creativity and success, but you might want to go ahead and keep your head in the clouds. From FastCo:

Evolutionary psychologists have found that hindsight and foresight — what you might call mental time travel — are unique to humans. Looking back on our experiences allows us to integrate them into our present time, allowing us to act with a little more wisdom. Additionally, self-generated thought allows us to consolidate our memories into a sense of self.

Couple that with an augmented survival instinct and the potential to make unprecedented connections that drive creative thinking, and a little more reverie doesn’t sound all that bad.
