You’ve been waiting for it, and now it is finally here. The place where you can share, rate and comment on your fellow mappers work. This online community is not only the destination for you to share your best maps and get great ideas from other mind mappers; but will open up the concept of mapping to a whole new audience. Just think how much easier sharing videos and content is now thanks to the likes of YouTube.

If you have MindManager all you need is an .mmap file and you are ready to start. For new comers to mapping you can also come in, play around and see what it’s all about. How much easier could it get?

This great community provides you the platform you need to put your amazing mapping skills to the test. As you might have guessed by now, the recent string of blog posts and ‘fun’ maps that have been coming out with the same name were built to help set the stage.

With the new MapsforThat community you will be able to:

  • Upload, download and view maps in one all inclusive community.
  • Comment, rate and share maps with the rest of the world.
  • Bring your mapping skills to the forefront for everyone to see.
  • Get the most valuable and popular map templates for MindManager.

What are you waiting for, login or sign-up today. Registering is easy, in fact I would bet that many of you already have login details. If you have a registered email address and password with Mindjet you already have everything you need to be up and running. All you have to do is make a display name for the site and you can begin uploading.

I encourage you to get out there and take a look. Open up those creative juices and let those maps fly. This is an ever evolving community for you—the users. Please share with us comments or feature requests that you have and we will work our hardest to get this to be everything you want it to be. After all it is a community for you.

We do not really feel any great concern over the implications of this new initiative for us, but we find it slightly worrying that on this and other things, Mindjet preaches collaboration whilst creating what appears to “the community” as competition. Regardless of whether people choose to use Biggerplate, “Map for That”, or both, the point is that Mindjet have created a situation where an either/or decision might be made. If they choose us, Mindjet have lost potential engagement as a map is uploaded elsewhere. If they choose “Map for That”, then a long-term supporter and advocate of Mindmanager loses out, and by proxy, so will the members of Biggerplate. Either way, the mapping community associated with Mindjet is a little more dispersed and divided as a result, and the larger objective of helping “mapping go mainstream” remains a little further off. Mainstream means a critical mass of people are using and engaging with something.

Thanks to all those who have voiced their support for Biggerplate, we continue to enjoy and appreciate your engagement and activity! I thought I would post a reply here to some of the points made, but if you would like to read my thoughts on the new map gallery in full, I have written about it on our blog here:rnrnhttp://biggerplateblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/theres-map-for-that-our-review.htmlrnrnThe creation of the gallery by mindjet is an entirely logical move, and in many ways, a long-overdue one. However, as many others have pointed out, why start from scratch when there is already such an active and significant community already in existence on Biggerplate? The idea of creating closer integration between the “community and Mindjet products” whilst ignoring one of the largest gatherings of Mindjet customers in existence, makes the claim seem slightly hollow. Had Mindjet engaged with Biggerplate around this idea, we could have easily provided something that would benefit from our functionality and community. No such engagement occurred. rnrnWe do not really feel any great concern over the implications of this new initiative for us, but we find it slightly worrying that on this and other things, Mindjet preaches collaboration whilst creating what appears to “the community” as competition. Mainstream means a critical mass of people are using and engaging with something. Mindjet have just served to create another sub-group, instead of helping build towards critical mass by working with Biggerplate in this instance.rnI wish them luck with this project, I have no doubt it will do well. But there are numerous ways in which this can be viewed as a sad missed opportunity for Mindjet, their community of users, and the mapping community as a whole. rnrnBest wishesrnrnLiam Hughesrnwww.biggerplate.com

I also would recommend Biggerplate. Why not tap into their dedicated support base, rather than start over on a website that doesn’t seem to work fully and is hard to navigate.

I vote for Biggerplate. Very sad to see how Mindjet invents bicycle (with limitations!), instead of cooperating with and supporting already successful project.rn

@Henry and @Unclestan The goal of this site is not slight Biggerplate or in any way hurt their traffic or success. They have been a tremendous resource to the mapping community and I know that they will continue to be. This is the first step in a greater push to integrate the community into Mindjet products and help to grow mapping into even more main stream processes. This is of course a work in progress and all of your feedback is greatly appreciated as we are already prepping for the next release of the site. nnPlease send any and all feedback to mapsforthat@mindjet.com and we will make sure that we include it in our planning sessions.

If this development is as you say part of a push to integrate the community and grow mapping in main stream processes, why is there not more effort driven towards supporting Technology Partners who spend a lot of time and effort developing add-ins and solutions that integrate/work with Mindmanager.nnIt has now been 11-12 days since MindManager 9 launched yet there has not been a single Mindjet PR article or launch announcement that has mentioned partners and their add-ins/solutions that are available for MindManager 9. Even after a dedicated push by Mindjet’s development team asking Technology Partners to make sure their applications where available for MindManager 9 at the release date there has been no mention or recognition of the work we have put in to meet that request.nnIf Mindjet are serious about actually growing awareness and market surely looking to your Technology Partners, (those that are left), and helping them to help you would be a good idea. Mindjet’s customers may know that there is a new version and a new map library but I doubt many even know Mindjet have a Technology Partner Program with members that add value and help promote the product and its principles in the work place.nnWill Technology Partners ever be embraced by Mindjet or are we forever doomed to being hidden from the wider Mindjet community.

Nigel,nnYour question is well timed. We just finalized the post that highlights and links to Technology Partners. This is planned to be published on Monday. We wanted to make sure that we had all the correct partners and links for MindManager version 9. I hope this will help to ease some of your concerns. Also you will notice that the post has been authored by Stephanie Neill who is the Technology Partner Coordinator and will be helping the spearhead this effort.

This has potential to be a tremendous resource. I’ve been incorporating maps into research and consulting processes. Replacing traditional documents, SOW, etc. with mind maps. There’s a learning curve for most clients. But it’s well worth the investment. Thanks, Frank Della Rosa, Symphonetic Insight

Thank you for the comments. This is a very new undertaking and thus will have some growing pains. However your feedback is greatly appreciated and please keep it coming. This site is about the users and we want to make sure your experience is flawless.

I logged in to make similar points as MapNinja and David made. nnBiggerPlate has an existing library of maps and it would be wonderful to see you supporting a site that has clearly been supportive of you thus far. nnAnd like David, I’d love to see the interface tweaked a bit. Allowing for more maps to be viewed per page would be really helpful. It would also be nice to see a very brief description of each map listed. The thumbnails are too small to be of great benefit, and the titles are not always that helpful, so currently you need to spend time going into individual mindmaps to determine how useful they may be.nnThese comments aside, I applaud the effort to get us going with more map content.

This is all very nice but has it not been done before? An already established map portal called Bigger Plate, http://www.biggerplate.com, has over 10,000 members and 1200+ published maps in MindManager format.nnSurely using your Mindjet brand to help leverage an existing map library that has done a lot to promote MindManager in the past and already has a strong following and focus on MindManager generated maps would have been a more worthy and rewarding exercise, rather than simply adding yet another Mindjet repository for us all to watch go the same way as the old Mindjet Labs and the now outdated Mindjet Solutions sites.

Only ten maps per page makes viewing laborious.rnCan this be upped to 100 or can there be an option to choose 10, 100 or “all”?
