MindManager8forMac

Hello World!

With all the buzz and excitement around Apple’s announcements this week, we want to make sure you also hear Mindjet’s great news too!

The whole Mindjet team is very excited to announce the release of MindManager® 8 for Mac!

This new arrival to the MindManager family includes many key features that you have been asking for:

  • Productivity Software Integration:
    • Integration with native Mac productivity software such as iCal, Address Book and iWork.
    • Import content from Microsoft Word and Apple® Pages®.
    • Export maps to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Apple iWork Pages, Keynote®, OPML, text outline, HTML, JPG, PNG or TIFF formats.
  • New Ways to Share:
    • Integration with iChat allows users to send a map to someone during a chat for real-time collaboration and information sharing.
    • Users can also publish maps in social media networks and export maps in a portable, interactive PDF or Flash format using Mindjet Player.
    • Maps created in MindManager 8 for Mac can be edited in MindManager 8 for Windows and Mindjet’s Web-based collaboration platform Mindjet Catalyst.
  • Enhanced Task & Calendar Management:
    • Integration with iCal synchronizes tasks and events in your map to make it easier to keep track of ‘To Do’ lists and multiple calendars – one for home, another for school, a third for work, and so on.
  • Gesture Support:
    • Standard Apple gesture support on the Multi-Touch Trackpad and Magic Mouse is available. These are actions like “pinch and expand” to zoom in on the map and “three finger roll” for scrolling through the map.
  • MindManager Browser:
    • A built-in browser, which can be initiated within maps, gives users the ability to view Web pages and PDF documents without leaving MindManager 8 for Mac.

Many THANKS to all of our dedicated beta testers who provided great constructive feedback. In fact, our development team is already working on future updates to enable local desktop imports & exports based on your feedback! Keep it coming — we’re listening and working hard to deliver superior products.

MindManager 8 for Mac is available in four languages: English, German, French and Japanese and can be purchased through Mindjet.com for the upgrade price of US $129 or as a new license for US $249. Visit Mindjet.com for pricing for regions outside the US.

I would also love MM for the iPad, all other mapping tools kinda suck, both on the desktop, and their ios counterparts

It would be great to mix it with dropbox, so we could edit the same map anywhere we are, and not have multiple copies

also, how come MM for mac doesnt have the brainstorming feature? i miss that

Also, it would be nice to directly be able to mail maps as jpgs, or pdfs from within MM, kinda like iwork, I just mailed myself a pdf of my map so i could see it in class on my ipad, and i had to export it, then find it, open mail and attach it, its more steps than it should take, specially when considering they are steps i would have to repeat several timesnnI love MM though, but theres always room for improvement

I notice that you have taken the old mindjet mobile application away from the appstore. CN we expect a new Product soon to replace the old one?

I need this on iPad. It's an ideal device for mind mapping. I have seen at least one product for mapping on iPad already on the appstore. When are you coming out with yours? Or should I abandon Mindmanager in favor on a SW that supports iPad?

Mindmanager for iPad is a must! I'm really surprised there isn't one out yet or even plans for the future, it's a bit disappointing. :)

Why you guys always late it took years for iphone version, then years again for mac version, good product but we need MM for Ipad rather sooner, you will make most sales
I really love the product but laptops are soon to be dead and I bet every mindjet user now has an ipad or will get one -so, it makes sense to have an Ipad version

Please hurry up and make an affordable MM for iPad or make the Catalyst cheaper for current mm 8 lic. key holders; 300/yr is too much in this economy.
    Thank you,
BTW, I love using your product!

I have a comment about MindManager for Mac.
I changed from PC platform to Mac platform.
I am not overjoyed about MindManager for Mac.
Compared to the PC version I find it graphically slow reacting, clumsy to use and lacks some of the facilities from the PC version.
I do not understand why the same company produces such a scaled down version of a great program.

Our product team is in the research phase but the timing and the exact product aren't known at this point. As you can imagine there are lots of possibilities so we are working on developing the most useful Mindjet product we can for the iPad, but as I said the timing and details are still totally up in the air.

Why do you still have to enter the proper file extension yourself in MM8? Sometimes you don’t know all the extensions for xml- and template files etc.

This text is from your FAQ for iPhone, and it has not yet been fixed.

Note: To ‘Save As’ an .xmmap file from MindManager 7 for Mac you must
    manually
    enter the proper file extension:
    .xmmap
(This is a hidden feature within MM7 for Mac). This has been fixed in MindManager 8 for Mac.

I also have a question about the built in browser; why doesn’t some links work properly, e.g links for download and for another/new window don’t seem to work.

And support for iDisk would be great for the iPhone app.

I hope you continue to work for the Mac version to perform better.

I had a great expectation about the upgrade to MM8 for mac, but I’m very disappointed. It’s absurd the cost of €100 for such poor new features. I add my voice to Mirek’s#11.
The convertion of maps to MsOffice and iWork formats must be performed on-line. This is absurd! It’s so clumpsy all the process. Do you really think this is an advancement: sign-in at mindjet website, upload the file, convert it, and then download it again! It’s non-sense.

    Some suggestions:
    – I support Steve’s idea to include tabs.
    – It would be great to be able to share it at mobile.me (gallery, iweb), directly from MM8. A real Apple integration.

    Matthew Carter :

When I bought my MM 7 license last year, I did so because of the promised free upgrade to MM8 when it was released. When you delayed the release until after the new year, I was told that the maintenance and support I had bought at the time would mean that I would be able to get MM 8 without additional cost.
The new information you have posted about MM8 seems to indicate that there is a fee to upgrade from 7 to 8. Is this a change of policy? If I am still able to get an upgrade for free, how do I go about doing so?

I’d like to add my voice to that Matthew Carter above. I bought late last year on the understanding that the upgrade to MM8 would be free, but have been very surprised to have had no emails from the company telling me how to go about doing so.

I’d be grateful if Mindjet could let me, and no doubt many others, know how to go about redeeming the company’s offer.

I am quite happy with this upgrade. There were several uses for which MM7 for Mac just didn’t work for me. MM8’s handling of tasks & events, especially the great integration with iCal and Address Book have addressed these issues beautifully. Thanks for making MM a more Mac-ish app this time around. Best of luck continuing to move the product forward!

I appreciate continuous work on MM but I must say I am bit disappointed by the upgrade price tag. OK, I could expect that given the curent price policy, but… I am using MM7 on my private Mac and even bought MM8 when had to move to corporate Windows at work, but another $100 for iWork integration feels like a luxury. Especially when MM7 works quite well.

Maybe I should give it a time and wait, say, for improved integration of MM for Mac and MM for iPhone… or another killer feature. And scroll with two fingers only in the meantime. :-]

Nice news. But I would like to know whether the new Mind Manager improves on the basic features. Looking at the 8.x beta, I was surprised at how little has changed.

Too bad. I expected much more from MindJet. I like the Mac program a lot. But from a usability standpoint, I found some improvement would help.

For example, I have many mind maps associated with a single project. It would be nice to save these in a single file, with different tabs for different maps, ala Safari.

Mindjet becomes more more a joke … see what all those garage developers deliver in weeks, u don’t deliver in years …

You guys should seriously check your workflow. You speed regarding mac and iOS products is just unacceptable for the industry. FAIL!
