Perhaps I could improve my topic construction or export parameter specifications to make it more compatible with the conversion logic. I’m open to learning.

    Cécile,

By “you”, I assume you mean Mindjet, not Michael Deutch, the messenger here :) I’ll definitely bring forth your opinion in pricing and promotion discussions. I have not been a part of pricing in the past but have an opportunity to participate in my new role. I will represent (and personally support) your point of view!

    Thanks for your honest feedback!

  • Cécile Chabot

To propose your “promotion” (hem) with a 1/1 exchange rate between $ and € is merely outrageous in the current context : frankly, it pisses me off and I just don’t WANT to be ripped off in such a way. You totally missed the point as regards your European customers…

  • http://www.mindjet.com/campaign/click.aspx?campID=196 Michael Deutch

Just got confirmation, the promotional upgrade price for MindManager 7 users will be $99 to move to MindManager 8 for Mac — (for Stephen & others who have asked). There’s no reason for an existing user to purchase a second copy in order to get an affordable upgrade (unless you really need a second copy).

  • http://www.mindjet.com/campaign/click.aspx?campID=196 Michael Deutch

    Stephen,

Sorry, I don’t mean to confuse you. There will be a price increase for Mac 8 from the current, $129 price to $249. We’re currently running this special promotion for new customers and/or prevent someone from waiting if they were considering Mac 7 today. After the product is released, you’ll have the opportunity to ‘try’ and ‘purchase’ an upgrade if you like the improvements. There is an opportunity to get in early and get the free M&S for those that know they want the improvements.

  • kiwispoon

Michael, I don’t understand. I have purchased MM7 for Mac, the upgrade path should be simple – why make a good, loyal customer buy (yet another) licence to get a ‘free’ upgrade?? I suspect I am not the only MM7Mac user who is feeling aggrieved by this. I want to upgrade – I do not want another copy of MM7 Mac. The implication is that if I wait I will pay the ‘full’ price for an upgrade. I would like to actually see the product before making this decision rather than taking it on ‘trust’. Sorry for being so suspicious but this is not making me feel like a valued customer.

    Cheers
    Stephen

Stephen (Kiwispoon), Sorry for your frustration. It’s true that MindManager for Windows has about 12 years more development than the Mac product. I believe the current naming convention (Mac 7) gives the wrong impression of feature parity with the Windows version. IMHO, a past mistake! The Mac price point, however, is currently about 1/3 that of the Window’s product.

MindManager 8 for Mac will be a big step forward filling in some missing, and adding new features…including: share maps with the Mindjet Player, new integrations for Microsoft and Apple productivity apps, post maps online viewable with browsers, integration with iCal and more…This is a really nice step forward for MindManager Mac and the plan is to continue to grow this product for the future!

  • kiwispoon

Thanks for the response Michael. Must say I am very disappointed. I have been using MM since V3.5 & have helped spread its us in the places I have worked – MM7 is a ‘shadow’ of the windows version. I feel I am being punished for being an early adopter.
    Cheers
    Stephen

  • http://www.mindjet.com/campaign/click.aspx?campID=196 Michael Deutch

Stephen, if you already own Mac 7, have active maintenance, you’ll get the upgrade free. If you don’t own 7 yet, it’s a BETTER deal to buy it NOW with the included maintenance for a FREE upgrade.

Ryuji /Parpalo, no, our academic sales are through a partner and this offer is not available via the partner.

Renaud, are you referring to ‘call out’ topics? The ones that look like a cartoon dialogue bubble?

Papick, sorry you felt disappointed. We hope you’ll give MindManager 8 a chance. Thanks!

Mike S. If you’re within that contract period, then you are entitled to the free upgrade.

Dan, when you open MindManager 8 for Mac you can either select a template or click the ‘open existing map’ button which opens a dialogue to select an existing file. This should help!

  • kiwispoon

Hi, when will the upgrade price from MM7 Mac be announced? Am I going to be disadvantaged by being an early adopter of MM7 Mac?
    Cheers
    Stephen

  • Ryuji

Does the same deal apply to academic pricing?

  • http://www.serendi.lu Renaud

I did try a few transfers from mindmanager Mac 7 to the iPhone. Depending on the file format choosen the result on the iPhone is very different (which could be understandable). However one thing is surprising : the bubble subjects are not transferred. Will this be corrected or available sometime ? Otherwise thanks for your move to the iPhone and eagerly waiting for Mac version 8.

  • Parpalo

Hi. If I buy the MM7 Mac Academic version today, will I be able to get the upgrade free? I tried, but could not find information on that.

  • Mike S.

What is the upgrade policy for someone who bought mm7 mac with a 3 year support contract? (Not sure if it’s actually run out, but my old login says my email address doesn’t exist… looking for my receipt now).

  • http://pgt.de Papick G. Taboada

I’ll try again. I own a license for mm7 and I am very unpleased by the update policies. The update from VMWare Fusion v1 to v2 was free as a gift to all early adopters that payed for a piece of software that was very below customer expectations.
The same applies here, IMHO. mm7 for mac was, besides of very buggy and crashing all the time, quite below out expectations, missing features.
That’s why I would expect mm8 to be free to mm7 users – as a gift or as an apology, or even both.

  • http://pgt.de Papick G. Taboada

Why did my last comment not show up?

  • John

    Hi Michael,

Looking forward to the release. What is the target date?

  • Daniel Roscigno

    Hi Michael,
This is more of a MM8 request than anything else. Can we have a preference for what to display at startup? I would love the ability to have nothing show at startup other than the menubar. 99% of the time I want to open one of the maps in my recent list, and this is not a choice in the MM7 dialog that opens at startup, so I click Cancel and then mouse to File -> Open Recent. While I am begging, how about mapping a Command-Something to Open Recent and saving me some clicks?

    Take Care,
    Dan

    Michael.

I just bought mm7 for the mac 2 weeks ago. Is there any way I could get this deal even though I bought it at this time or am I going to have to pay the upgrade fee? Thanks.

  • Marty

I have MM5 on Windows and would like to change to the Mac environment. Is your current Mac promotion for a full version (not an upgrade)? Thanks.

  • Erik

Any form of automation in MM8 for Mac? COM automation of MM for Windows is pretty sweet (allowing me to control MM from Python). It would be nice if there were some form of scripting on the Mac side as well.

Have a great weekend everyone. I’ll be off until Tuesday!

Jim – how are you? you should be able to open and work with any map from Windows on the Mac platform. There are some mapping elements that aren’t supported yet on the Mac though. A goal we have is to have fidelity between the versions. Still work to be done here.

And, Mindjet Player on the Mac? TBD 8-)

  • http://www.mindjet.com/campaign/click.aspx?campID=196 Michael Deutch

Bob – We currently have a license key exchange program for MindManager 7. I’m unaware of any plans yet to change this program. You can read about it here: http://www.mindjet.com/resources/downloads/exchangekey/notice.aspx

Bob – JCVGantt will not yet work with MindManager 8 for Mac. We’re looking at this closely to see how we can extend this integration across all platforms supported by Mindjet instead of handling each one independently.

Christopher (& Bob) – MindManager Mac 8 maps should continue to be usable with partners like AEC FastTrack (or I believe Merlin) for generating Gantt charts from MindManager maps. Deeper integration isn’t yet supported but I passed on these comments to the product manager.

    hi michael –

I was wondering about two things –

    1) are or will the MM files created in the Windows version of MM8 completely compatible with the Mac version, either 7 or the upcoming 8? (and vice versa?)
Or is some multi-step conversion process involved?

    2) will there be a Mindject Player function included in the new Mac MM8?

    Thanks!

Also, what about JVCGannt for Mac? Again something I’ve been using on the Windows side?

  • Bob Grove

I’ve been a long time Mindmanager user on the Windows side and have the latest Wndows Mac 8 version. I’ve recently switched over to Mac and enquired on the swap over program that I understand you have but was advised to think about wating for this Mac upgrade to be released before changing over. So I’ve been using the Windows version for now using Parallel Desktop. My question is will i be able to do a straight (free) swap over with this exchange program once released? Also, what about JVC Gannt which I also have?

Yes, loading a project plan from a map works well with fasttrack. Going from Fasttrack to MM doesn’t work as well and is no way as good as the MS Project integration with the Windows product.

Jim, contact our customer support team, they’ll be able to answer your question. http://www.mindjet.com/support/contact/form.aspx

    Larry, not yet.

Dan, we occasionally run promotions for MindManager 8 for Windows too. For instance, we have a promo for MindManager 8 upgrades in our store today! Regularly $179, now only $129 (as of 9/2/2009, running for a limited time).

Elo, thanks! Good question. I don’t have an answer for that yet.

  • Larry

Will there be integration with JVCGantt?

  • http://jamesdgoddardmac.com Jim Goddard

    Hi there

I just bought an MM upgrade for MM6 to MM7 for Mac, thinking that would give me the opportunity for the free MM8 upgrade, but now I am not sure because the shopping cart didn’t give me free support and upgrades….can you help and let me know if I will qualify for MM8 upgrade?
    Many thanks

  • Dan

    Michael,

Why is it so much more expensive to buy the Windows version? I’d like to get it, but I can’t justify spending $350.

    Michael

Will MindManager 8 for Mac support Mindjet Connect functionality as has been the case in the windows version since Version 7?

This would be a key decision point for me in purchasing the upgrade.

  • http://www.mindjet.com/campaign/click.aspx?campID=196 Michael Deutch

Goose – officially, limited time. But, you should be safe for a week. If by any chance not, I’ll make sure that it happens for you!

Jason, no. The price for a new MindManager 8 for Mac will increase to be $249. The upgrade price isn’t being listed yet but it’ll increase as well. The deal being offered is a really good one for new customers / prospects.

  • Jason

Are you saying the the *Upgrade* price from MM7 to MM8 will be USD249?
