Hello,

Thanks for the article. I work as a facilitator of creative processes and I recognize the 'problems' that are described in the beginning. For me, those things are 'my concern' as a facilitator and I have to make sure that people feel safe, are not judging, ... so that's probably the reason why companies hire me. And yes, brainwriting is also a very good method (certainly for groups who are unknown with creative thinking).
I didn't know the 635 method but I would rather go for the 691 method. Generate with a group of 6 people at least 9 ideas in 1 minute. Time-pressure is a great advantage in brainstorming so if you give particants a lot of time, they will take the time and my experience is that people will generate more (and often more out-of-the-box and that's what we want) ideas if you put some time-pressure on them.

Creative wishes, Cyriel

It's great to use the ideas from others in the team effort as impulses to get new ideas, but it is also important to use other impulses.

By asking provocative questions, like the ones built into theRealizer addin for MindManager, the participants gets new thoughts easing the idea generation. Even a simple set of images will make the participants think new thoughts.

If not using these kind of impulses the ideas from brainstormings tend to be based on knowledge and experience only, giving ideas with low competitive advantage.
