Do you have plans to make this blog compatible with FireFox or is intended for IE users only?

Well it doesn’t look much better on Safari. With over 20% of internet user using browsers other than IE, you’d think the days of IE-only websites would be over. Guess we’ve still got a ways to go.

Not only does it not display correctly in FireFox (at least on my Mac) but the fonts, colors, etc, are hideous. I mean, really. Yuck.

Thanks for your comments (positive and negative)! We did go a little wild with the fonts and graphics to show off the visual nature of maps. We are currently looking for a way to present the information in a way that is both visually interesting AND that reads well regardless of the browser. We will get an improved map up asap.

    Ian,
Thanks for the tip. We will put it in the map!

You’re close to valid, with a hint of semantics, just fix your code and clean up your css: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fblog.mindjet.com%2F2006%2F12%2Fmapping-macworld-2007-update-the-best-things-to-do-in-sf

Hidden Gem: If you’re up for a bus ride, or a long cab ride, take the 38 on Geary Avenue (crosses Macy’s in Union Square) to Geary and 34th Street. It’s a bit of a haul, but the Japanese restaurant on the corner called Kufuya has great Sushi. If you’re content on staying in Union Square area Sushi-Man on Bush St, right by Powell is great, and Sushi Boat on Geary by Mason isn’t too bad, though touristy. If anyone has questions about the area, our office is in Union Square, feel free to email me on my site!

    Michael,
Want to take a crack at what Brady has pointed to?

    Brady,
Thanks for the Sushi tips! We’ll put them in the map under our new (with your post) “Best Sushi Topic.” What about Blowfish? And do you ever have tacos at El Farolito on 24th and Alabama? The best!

Hopefully the map now looks better on Firefox and Safari. Please let us know if you think otherwise. We’re trying!

Some of the errors are obvious fixes - such as number 2 you have the h1 in the a tag, has to be the other way around (you’re putting a block level element inside an anchor), #1 you need to call out type=”text/javascript” when calling a script that’s javascript, #3 make sure you write your ambersand as proper code which is why the validator is choking on you same as #49 - some of your other invalids should go away after that since the ambersand is throwing off the document flow, you just may have to worry about the ref tag. The image looks better, I’m guessing an overflow issue or you’ve switched to thumbnail?

I’ve never tried BlowFish or El Farolito - I’ll have to check them out, thanks:) I usually eat at a little hidden Taqueria on block past Sutter on Stockton (right before the Stockton tunnel) on the north side, or I’ll sneak to to the Haight for http://www.elbalazo.net/ or http://www.cha3.com/

Brady, while the code “errors” you are listing do not validate, they are not responsbile for the layout issues. all that has to be done is to scale the image down and everything would look fine.
