Mindet has been nominated for a Mobile Star Award for best Tablet PC application. You are more than welcome to go there and vote for the what you think are the best hardware and software products that help with mobile computing. Voting runs until September 22.
Microsoft Security MVP Dana Epp has posted a very nice screencast on using MindManager to map out a new software development project. It is one part of Dana’s project to, as he says, "be completely transparent and show my readers on my blog how I go about building a product. One man. One product. 30 days. Recorded via traditional text blogging, augmented with screencasts using Camtasia Studio." And the screencast has the added bonus of being on a Tablet PC. Interesting content–and great demo of using MindManager on a tablet.
Meanwhile, InnovationTools proprietor Chuck Frey has just posted an online survey on mind mapping. Start on his blog here for background on why he is doing the survey, and follow the link from there to the survey itself. I highly recommend, urge and encourage you to go to his blog and take the survey. He will be sharing the results of the survey–and we will all be the better for it.
We got a great story today in the Hollywood Reporter! Who would ever think! We do know that there are studios and even some very famous actors (sorry, can’t name names) who use MindManager. But the latest Tech Reporter column from Hollywood Reporter columnist Chris Marlowe profiles how Joel Rasmussen used MindManager 6 Mac to manage all the aspects of creating "Before the Music Dies." I have only seen the trailer, but it looks like a great film. It includes interviews with Eric Clapton, Erykah Badu, Doyle Bramhall II, David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, Branford Marsalis, Les Paul, Michael Penn, Bonnie Raitt, Widespread Panic, R.E.M. manager Bertis Downs and more.
"We have one big map that’s the overall story, then we break that down into acts," Rasmussen says. "There’s a linked-in map for the whole trip of a production team in San Francisco and for preproduction, production, postproduction and distribution. I couldn’t do what I do without it."
Last night Mindjet hosted the first MindManager Monday event in our beautiful new headquarters in San Francisco. The event brought out a lot of enthusiastic MindManager users as well as a few people who were curious about the product.
Everyone enjoyed a few snacks and drinks before heading in to hear Jamie Nast, author of Idea Mapping, speak about the power and potential of mapping. After Jamie’s presentation the group broke into smaller clusters to get some hands-on time with MindManager and have a more personalized demonstration. We found some of our work was taken care of for us by experienced MindManager users who shared their experiences and knowledge with the rest of the crowd!
Some of the most popular ‘discoveries’ in the breakout sessions were:
- Importing information from Outlook; contact info, calendars, emails
- Creating relationship filters by placing a call-out-topic on a relationship link that designates the priority or status (ex. 1,2,3, or complete/incomplete)
- The Inspector window in MindManager 6 Mac that contains all map markers, task information and formatting options, in one easy to access point.
A big thank you to everyone who came out! Based on the interest generated for this event we’re already planning for another session (possibly quarterly). We’ll make sure to let you know what our plans are, and post the updates on the blog.
