As a R&D engineer I Mind Manager is my first stop in all my work. If I am creating a test plan I start with MindManager. The end result may likely be exported to a Word document but all the details, formulas, process flows and such are copied into the map for the intial draft.

As a copywriter and marketing strategist, I've made my professional life a lot easier by developing X6 map templates for writing sales copy.

When I start a new project with a client, I open my customized template, save it to a project folder and plug the content into the topics (now the major elements of an effective sales piece).

When it gets too cumbersome and complex to continue in a map, then I export it in outline format into Word and finish fleshing it out.

Most people don't realize how complex sales letters (whatever the venue) really are. In order to inspire a buying decision in a prospective customer -- a lot of pieces have to fall into place and in a certain sequence. Using MindManager helps keep me, and the process sane and manageable.

This was the main reason I got MindManager although now use it for many other things. Simililar to your server build I have a map with the build to take a std PC and add user specific applications for CAD use.

It's something that has been built over the past couple of years as I add/remove/tweak applications. I keep it in MindManager and only export if needed by others, usually to Word.

Recently I exported it and was amazed to find it's grown to be an 80 page document in Word yet it's painless to browse/use/edit in MindManager thanks to the map, rather than linear, format. You focus on the just info, the branch, needed for the current task so the total volume of info is not an obstacle.
